Every day at work, in our families, and in our communities, we experience unhelpful Drama. We misunderstand people we’re with and their behaviors, which can lead us to mislabel them and their intentions. We might vent our frustrations to others, which usually ends up adding to everyone’s dissatisfaction. We avoid problematic topics and people only to find ourselves in false harmony and simmering irritation. And we can discover ourselves in fights where no-one is getting what they want. All this Drama reduces the energy we need to do important things together.
The first steps to reducing Drama include knowing what Drama is, detecting when we are in it ourselves, and having some skills to begin noticing it in others. The next steps are to begin moving from Contempt to Curiosity and then to greater connection with ourselves and others.
This highly interactive workshop with Dr Caitlin Walker includes a morning session where you will learn symptoms and cost of drama, the Drama Triangle, how to spot it, and how to honor others while inviting yourself and them to reduce the drama that’s present. You will gain new perspectives, be equipped to start self-management, and take away some tools to start addressing drama in your workplace and life.
Then in the afternoon, we will build on what you’ve learned in the morning session to explore further methods to help reduce unnecessary drama to conserve everyone’s energy for things we really care about.
We’ll uncover the values that we go into Drama for and learn how to meet them with positive energy, explore how to surface what everyone would really like to happen, and learn how we can adjust our behavior to make those outcomes more likely.
This workshop includes a simple lunch and an in-depth workbook for your use at the workshop and beyond as you continue to reduce Drama in your workplace, family, and community.
